If I remember correctly, one specialty brown rice is like $23/lb - prolly more nowadays. Brown rice is simply white rice that has not had the brown-colored bran covering removed. So brown rice is considered a whole grain. Short grain brown rice is so plump that it is almost round. These grains also cling together when cooked and are very soft.
For better texture, brown rice is soaked in water for about 30 min before cooking. Soaking reduces cooking time, thereby saving energy. The agricultural chemicals can be eliminated, and the brown rice is cooked conveniently with smooth, sweet taste, and the respective grown brown rice is suitable for various physical constitutions. The dietetic fiber extracted from the fully germinated brown rice in which only dietetic fiber remains is utilized as both preventive and curing means. Brown rice is an economical, nutritious and versatile food.
